For entry onto Royal Holloway degree programmes you will need to meet specified entry requirements. Below are the standard requirements, but offers made will depend on the individual application and full details of the requirements will be given on the offer letter. Individual courses may have specific academic requirements, such as specific grades in certain A’ levels or First/Upper Second Class honours degree for Postgraduate entry, or work experience. This information can be found in the relevant prospectus or on the departmental web pages.

Undergraduate programmes

Academic requirements

Students who have taken A’ levels or the IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate) will be considered for direct entry onto our undergraduate programmes.

As well as completing STTP, applicants will also need to have taken 3 GCE A levels or have successfully completed a University Foundation Year programme at Royal Holloway or elsewhere in the UK.

English language requirements

Mathematics:
IELTS 6.0; or
TOEFL Paper Based Test (PBT) 550; or
TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) 213; or
TOEFL Internet Based Test (iBT) 79.

Social Sciences (except Politics & International Relations), Sciences (except Mathematics), European Studies, Modern Languages (French, German, Italian, Hispanic Studies):
IELTS 6.5;or
TOEFL Paper Based Test (PBT) 570; or
TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) 230; or
TOEFL Internet Based Test (iBT) 88.

Politics & International Relations:
IELTS 6.5 overall with 6 in writing; or
TOEFL Paper Based Test (PBT) 570 with TWE score of 5.0; or
TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) 230 with TWE score of 5.0; or
TOEFL Internet Based Test (iBT) 88 with writing score of 24.

Arts subjects (except English Literature, European Studies and Modern Languages):
IELTS 6.5 overall with 7 in writing; or
TOEFL Paper Based Test (PBT) 570 with TWE score of 5.5; or
TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) 230 with TWE score of 5.5; or
TOEFL Internet Based Test (iBT) 88 with writing score of 26.

English Literature:
IELTS 7.0 with 7 in writing; or
TOEFL Paper Based Test (PBT) 600 with TWE score of 5.5; or
TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) 250 with TWE score of 5.5; or
TOEFL Internet Based Test (iBT) 100 with score writing score of 26.

Students who do not meet the language requirements may be able to take a pre-sessional programme.

Postgraduate Programmes

Taught Master’s: Applicants will need to have successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject with good grades and at a reputable university. Exact requirements will depend on the programme.

Research Master’s: Applicants will need to have successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject with good grades and at a reputable university. In many cases a Master’s level qualification will also be required.

Economics and Science Subjects (except Psychology):
IELTS 6.5;or
TOEFL Paper Based Test (PBT) 570; or
TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) 230; or
TOEFL Internet Based Test (iBT) 88.

Psychology, Social Sciences (except Economics), and Arts subjects (except English Literature):
IELTS 6.5 overall with 7 in writing; or
TOEFL Paper Based Test (PBT) 570 with TWE score of 5.5; or
TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) 230 with TWE score of 5.5; or
TOEFL Internet Based Test (iBT) 88 with writing score of 26.

English Literature:
IELTS 7.0 with 7 in writing; or
TOEFL Paper Based Test (PBT) 600 with TWE score of 5.5; or
TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) 250 with TWE score of 5.5; or
TOEFL Internet Based Test (iBT) 100 with score writing score of 26.

Students who do not meet the language requirements may be able to take a pre-sessional programme or our Bridging Diploma for International Students.

For the academic year 2004/5, there were a total of 10 Indonesian students at Royal Holloway:

8 of these were on Undergraduate programmes
2 were on Postgraduate Taught programmes

Scholarships

There are no specific scholarships for Indonesian students given by Royal Holloway but under the International Excellence Scheme both undergraduate and postgraduate overseas students can apply for an award of £2,000 towards their fees (for one year only).
